Google Incognito
A class action was filed in 2020 alleging that Alphabet Inc. (Google) secretly collected data from people using its popular web browser in a private “incognito” browsing mode.
Prior to February 2024 trial, Google agreed to settle. The settlement included deleting billions of data records, but does not include the $5bn asked by plaintiffs in damages. Instead, individuals will be able to pursue damages by filing their own complaints against Google in state courts.
