Google’s AI Spending Is Producing Measurable Returns
Google’s Q2 2026 earnings report provides strong evidence that its large investments in artificial intelligence are producing financial results and widespread product adoption.

Alphabet’s total revenue grew 24% year over year, as broken down in the graphic above. Google attributed Cloud growth to significant demand for AI infrastructure services. Search also grew as the company pushed AI Overviews and AI Mode into a more unified search experience.
Alphabet also raised its expected capital spending for 2026 to between $195 billion and $205 billion. The company said the increase will help it add capacity as demand continues to exceed its available supply.
AI Search Has Reached Mainstream Use
The adoption numbers show how quickly AI has become part of Google’s everyday products.
AI Mode now has more than 1 billion monthly active users as it appears in nearly every search made on Google. The popular Gemini app follows closely with 950 million monthly active users, tripling in just this past year.
Google also reported that AI features in Search send billions of clicks to websites every week – although we are still waiting for more definitive proof of these numbers. According to the company, AI Mode is increasing the total number of searches rather than reducing search activity.
What the Earnings Report Means for Law Firm Marketing
If this means anything to lawyers, it’s that the old ways of search are long gone and things are changed for good. AI Overviews and AI Mode are a part of the standard search experience, supported by growing usage, higher search revenue, and continued spending on infrastructure.
Prospective legal clients are asking longer and more detailed questions (or prompts) than ever before. They may receive an AI response, review local results, see a paid ad, and visit several pages during the same research process.
Law firm SEO strategies need to be fully adjusted to this new reality. This is essentially the point of no return where if your firm is hanging onto old methods, you’re going to get left way behind. Organic search, local search, and paid media should all support one another as Google, and the internet in general, presents information across more cutting-edge formats.
