Google Is Testing AI Summaries in Search Snippets

Google Tests AI-Written Snippets in Search

The text description that follows traditional “blue links” in search results may soon be written by AI instead of the one your SEO team wrote. Google is currently experimenting with replacing meta descriptions in search results using AI-generated summaries.

Screenshots shared by SEO experts show two versions being tested. One version fully replaces the description as shown below:

The other version adds a summary below the usual snippet:

Both include a small Gemini logo that signals AI involvement.

This is a test and not a permanent feature just yet. Only a small group of users has seen the new summaries so far, but it shows where Google may be heading. If this becomes more widely adopted, websites could lose control over how their pages appear in search.

Historically, Google has often ignored the meta description tag when it believes other content on the page better serves the user’s query. This test adds another layer, where AI is not just selecting a better sentence but writing something entirely new. And there is no guarantee it will reflect the message the site intended to send.

Why Better Content Matters More Than Ever

If Google continues to test AI-generated snippets, the quality of your on-page content becomes even more important. Rather than pulling from tags or short blurbs, the AI is scanning the full page to decide what best answers a search query. That means thin or unclear content is more likely to be misinterpreted or overlooked entirely.

This could affect how potential clients view your listings before they even click. When Google’s AI attempts to summarize a page, it looks for clear, direct, and well-structured language. Content that is written with purpose and clarity gives the AI more to work with and reduces the chance of misrepresentation.

Pages that are confusing, overloaded with jargon, or lacking depth may not be summarized in a way that reflects the firm accurately. This can impact how users see your brand in search results, especially when several firms are competing for the same types of queries.

How TSEG Helps Law Firms Stay Ahead

This test from Google reinforces what TSEG has focused on for years. We help law firms publish content that performs under real-world conditions, not just ideal ones. If AI summaries become a regular part of search results, firms that already prioritize clarity and structure will be in a stronger position.

We create legal content that is clear, accurate, and aligned with what people are actually searching for. That improves the chances of your pages being summarized correctly if Google decides to use AI in this way. From blog posts to service pages, everything we write is designed to reflect your message in a way both users and algorithms can understand.

Search results may begin to look different, but the foundation remains the same. TSEG gives law firms the content support they need to compete and win in any environment. Reach out today.
