Google Expands AI Booking Features

Google is rolling out new booking capabilities through its AI Mode, allowing users to reserve restaurants and soon, flights and hotels, without leaving the platform. These updates are part of Google’s broader push to embed more direct actions into search. What began as basic recommendations has now become full-service booking assistance, with users able to plan and act on travel ideas in a conversational flow. The system no longer requires access through Labs, making the features available to a wider base in the United States.

Restaurant bookings are already live. Hotel and flight reservations are in development, with major travel companies already working with Google to support the next phase of integration.

How Agentic Booking Works

Google’s agentic booking feature allows users to complete reservations directly inside AI Mode. The tool moves beyond suggestions and now initiates and finalizes bookings through services like OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek, Vivid Seats, Booksy, Fresha, and Vagaro. This functionality is now live for restaurant reservations in the United States.

For travel, Google is developing similar capabilities that will let users describe their ideal flight or hotel, compare options, review details like schedules and amenities, and then book with the provider of their choice. Partners currently involved in building this include Booking.com, Expedia, Marriott International, Wyndham Hotels and others. A release timeline has not been announced.

Travel Planning Tools Get Smarter

Google has added Canvas to AI Mode for organizing travel plans. This workspace allows users to map out trips, compare options, and build itineraries within a single interface. The feature is now available on desktop in the United States for users who opt into the AI Mode experiment through Google Labs.

In addition, Google is expanding its flight deals tool to more than 200 countries and over 60 languages. Users can now describe where and how they want to travel, and the system will surface discounted flights based on real-time availability. This feature was previously limited to the United States and Canada.

Why This Matters for Law Firms

Google’s move to handle full travel bookings through AI reflects a growing trend that may eventually reach law firms. Users expect AI search to provide faster answers and fewer steps to get what they want. If these AI features provide a better experience than regular search, people will increasingly trust and use them more. Law firms need to pay attention to how these features develop, how well they are received, and even test them out first-hand. If they truly make search better, it won’t be long before Google’s AI agent is able to book law firm consultations for users. When that happens, will your law firm be the one AI chooses?
